Welcome to Day 5!

Today we will make an angel block.

I still love this little angel that I designed several years & have incorporated into several patterns.

A Joyful Christmas was the original design.

It seems perfect on a tree of Tiny Dresden Plates.

Welcome to Day 4!

Thanks to all of you who are sewing along with us,

especially those of you who are sharing your block pics with us!

I love seeing the blocks in your fabrics & also the spins you put on them.

Today we will make this cute but simple flower block.

I prefer to use a bias tape maker any time I’m making stems on a quilt.

For this block I recommend the Clover 3/8″ Fusible Bias Tape Maker.

Note: The stem fabric doesn’t need to be cut on the bias for this block.

If you have a similar but different size bias tape maker it may work. You can also fuse a piece of fabric if you’re not comfortable using a bias tape maker.

I used my 1″ & 2″ circle paper cutters to cut the freezer paper templates for the flower.

Well, in all honestly, I just pulled them from my cute antique tins already cut.

It’s no coincidence that the flower uses these 2 sizes of circles. I’m basically lazy!!!

Welcome to Day 3!

Today we will make a Santa block.

You may have noticed this block is part Tiny Tree block & Tiny Dresden plate.

We’ll be referring to the previous 2 days’ instructions to make Santa!

Sorry for the delay, a storm this morning has had our internet off & on so I’ve had issues trying to complete this post.

Since I’ve rushed a bit I hope the instructions are complete & accurate!

I need to post now before it’s off again! lol

T’was the day after Christmas & everyone is gone. Not a creature is stirring but the man making ham & beans since before dawn…

The kids have all gone home, and taken the babe. She was the light of the party, unanimously the best part of the day!

But now it’s again quiet. We’ve been to Mass & back home. What to do now besides play on the phone?

Get out your fabrics, let’s make our own fun & play. It’s going to be another fun-filled 12 days!

I’ve a design in mind now, it’s small & it’s cute. I hope that you’ll join me, to give the Christmas blues the boot!

Candy Corn Sampler Quilt-Along Step 12, Awesome Appliqué

Welcome to Step 12 of making your Candy Corn Sampler!

I loved the task of Step 12, Awesome Appliqué!

On page 18, you’ll find the templates to make each shape.

Having the right tools not only helps your quilting look great, it also helps you enjoy the process like I do!

All the tools that I use for appliqué can be found on the notions page on my website by clicking here.

Remember, you can use your favorite appliqué method if it’s not the freezer paper version that I love.

Also, remember when you need more than 1 of the same shape,

trace 1,

staple layers of freezer paper together & cut up to 6 at once.

Use a staple remover to remove the staple without tearing the templates.

Since these pieces are small, remember to keep the seam allowance small & clip curves & corners.

In case you need a refresher, below is a leaf tutorial using the Apliquick bars for points & the round edges.

After circles, I think stars may be my favorite shape to make,

but really any of them that challenge me are fun.

Like any task, practice makes perfect!

You only need to make the shapes today & tomorrow.

Step 13 will be to glue & fuse the pieces to the background rectangle & stitch the appliqué.

I wish I’d taken a pic of all of the appliqué shapes ready to glue

but I guess I was so excited to start gluing that I forgot!

Instead I’ll show you cute little Emma enjoying being gma’s model. 😊

Candy Corn Sampler Quilt-Along Step 10, Mini Dresden Plate & Filler Blocks

After making today’s blocks, you’ll be 2/3 done with your Candy Corn Sampler!

Step 10 is 1 Mini Dresden plate block…

Refer to page 15, to make the Mini Dresden plate.

The hardest part of this block was deciding what color of thread to appliqué the block to the background with because I used a cheddar & a black fabric for the petals.

In the end I decided on my best friend in threads.

I use Sulky’s Medium Taupe 733-1180 thread almost every time I make a Dresden plate with multiple fabrics.

I pieced & appliquéd this entire Dresden Heaven quilt with Medium Taupe.

It blends well with light, medium & dark fabrics.

It also blends well with many colors, not just neutrals.

This is a good time to make the filler blocks if you’ve not already made them.

Find the flying geese blocks on page 16.

Half-square triangles can be found there too if you didn’t make them yet.

We’re back to needing these today.

Also more time for fabric play…

I love the rick rack prints in this collection. Who am I kidding? I love this whole collection by Need’l Love!

The tiny trees are a snap with my Tiny Tree Template Set.

Tools, tools, tools!

I used the 3/4”, 1″ & for 1 1/2” circle punches for the topiary tree.

Having the right tools makes all the difference.

You don’t have to,

but I like the precision & speed they give.

Just 1, 2, 3 little tree blocks today.
