Mystery Quilt-Along

Another 12 Days of Christmas Mystery Quilt-Along, Day 6

Welcome to Day 6!

Again we delve into the scrap bag.

Today we will make Big House blocks!

Did you notice my door greeter?

Isn’t he cute???

I could have had this to you a lot sooner if I didn’t have so many fabric options…

Also notice my new blue rotary cutter matches the blue house?

I sure miss my pink Olfa cutter, but alas I wore it out!

Anybody know where to get a new one?

I’ve Googled it time & again but with no luck…

I hope Olfa offers them again, soon!

This block is from my Dresden Village pattern

& my Christmas Greetings pattern.

I decided to go a bit crazy & use 3 different fabrics for the roof, windows & door.

No wonder it took me so long to choose fabrics from my scrap tote, right?

You’ll need to make 3 Big House blocks today.

I made a PDF of the detailed instructions.

Mystery Quilt-Along

Another 12 Days of Christmas Mystery Quilt-Along, Day 5

Welcome to Day 5!

Again we delve into the scrap bag.

I’m so excited about today’s task.

We’re making cute little cars!

Does it look familiar?

It’s the car I designed for my fabric line “Vintage Play.”

I also used it in my “A Christmas Sampler” pattern.

I like using freezer paper templates,

then machine stitching the pieces onto the background fabric,

but you can use your favorite appliqué method.

Since we’re making 3 cars for our quilt,

you’ll need 3 of each car part (6 tires total).

I cut 3 rectangles of freezer paper,

stapled them together with the templates on top

then cut them out with paper scissors.

Notice I’m not showing cutting out the circles.

I realized the wheels were about 1″

so I’m using my pre-cut 1″ circles that I use for the Tiny Dresden centers.

The next thing I did was alter your templates so you could do the same!

Next, I removed the staples.

Then, after much deliberation, I selected the fabrics,

fused the templates & cut out the fabric adding 3/16″ seam allowance.

I used my magic Apliquick Bars to help me glue the seam allowance to each piece with narry a divot!

You only need to make the parts for 3 cars today.

Don’t worry about the gluing or appliqué part,

we’ll save that for another day!

I made a PDF of the reversed templates for you.

Another 12 Days of Christmas Mystery Quilt-Along, Day 4

Welcome to Day 4!

Again we delve into the scrap bag.

Today we will make Tiny House blocks!

You’ll need to make 5 Tiny House blocks today.

WARNING: it takes longer to choose the fabrics than to actually make the block,

this is why I’ve only made 2 so far.

I wanted to get the instructions out to you today

so I stopped deliberating over fabrics! lol

I made a PDF of the detailed instructions.

It’s best if you spray & iron all your fabrics with Mary Ellen’s Best Press before cutting.

Lots of seams & little pieces.

Be sure to press really well so your blocks end up 3 1/2″ x 5″.

Another 12 Days of Christmas Mystery Quilt-Along, Day 2

Welcome to Day 2!

Again we delve into the scrap bag.

Today we will make pinwheel blocks!

This is one block to get you going, but you’ll need to make 6.

I made a PDF of the instructions.

You can use Thangles or another foundation to make the half-square triangles,

but if you’re going scrappy like I am,

just use the square cutting instructions that I’ve included.

Another 12 Days of Christmas Mystery Quilt-Along, Day 1; addendum

I just finished Day 1’s tree blocks.

They should measure 3 1/2″ x 5″.

I’m enjoying playing in my scraps with lots of 50’s & 60’s novelty prints.

I hope you enjoy making tiny trees as much as I do!

When you get your tiny trees made please share them with us on my Facebook group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/SewingWithSusan

Another 12 Days of Christmas Mystery Quilt-Along, Day 1

Welcome to Day 1!

Are you ready to sew your way to the Epiphany with me?

Delve into the scrap bag.

The first blocks we’re going to make are my Tiny Trees.

I sewed just one this afternoon,

but we’ll need to make 6 trees for Day 1 sewing.

They should measure 3 1/2″ x 5″.

You’ll need 3 fabrics for each tree.

You can use the same 3 fabrics for all the trees or make each one different.

I plan to make each of mine different.

I’m going scrappy.

I made a PDF of the instructions with templates

in case you don’t already own my Tiny Tree Template Set #286.

If you’d like to purchase the template set

you can find them on my website by clicking here.

Click the link below to bring up the PDF.

Be sure the 1″ square prints out exactly 1″ for the templates to be the proper size.

Mystery Quilt-Along

Another 12 Days of Christmas Mystery Quilt-Along

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

It has been the most peculiar Christmas season ever around here.

I’ve been laying low for the past 24 days due to COVID19.

No shopping, no wrapping, no Christmas cards sent.

No big family hosted dinner & no sewing.

I feel like the Grinch!

Although I’m still not 100%,

it’s nice to finally care about something today.

I cooked real food!

I also feel like thinking about the 12 Days of Christmas quilt I designed last month that I had envisioned starting with you here today.

I’ve not started cutting & sewing, but I have decided on what fabrics I will use.

Scraps!

These are scraps I bought from our guild’s auction

well over a year ago

from the estate of one of our guild’s charter members.

Her family donated her quilt stash & supplies to us.

Aren’t these lovely?

I can’t wait to get started.

Want to join me for 12 daily bits of sewing fun?

The quilt measures 23” x 27 1/2”.

There will be houses, trees, cars & a few Tiny Dresden plates too.

You can use Christmas fabrics

or a collection

or scraps like I’m using.

It’s going to be a fun little project & you’ll love it!

Please bear with me while I get started.

Just Keep Sewing…
