My Life, New Quilt Fabric Collection, Quilt Market

Spring Quilt Market 2019 In Kansas City

Chloe & I traveled to Kansas City last week to attend International Quilt Market.

It was great spending time with her & some of our market friends

including Susan Knapp of The Quilt Branch,

& her helper Karen Bailey.

Lucky for me, KC is a relatively short drive so we had a double booth

and I was able to pack some of my favorite goodies for display.

It was nice to talk to lots of old friends and to make lots of new ones too!

Lots of little Dresdens happening here!

We also showed my new quilt-as-you-go runner/placemat & lap quilt patterns.

Since I’m always busy each day in my own booth,

we have to go early to walk the rest of the show

or we have no idea what else it there.

We were able to see Moda’s new fabric collections that will be available later this year.

I chose postcards of my favorites…

Lella Boutique has a beautiful, soft collection with pretty greens & blues that I liked.

Minick & Simpson’s Northport group looks stunning as their groups always do.

I love the neutrals of Primitive Gatherings’ Urban Farmhouse Gatherings.

Betsy Chutchian’s Sarah’s Story has some of the same colors

as her Savanna’s Scraps so it would be easy to use the two groups together.

Sandy Klop’s Bubble Pop is adorable.

She put my black & cream polka dots in this collection!!!

I guess I’m not the only one who thinks her rainbow colors

are only made better with black & dots…

You’ll definitely be seeing me use those!

I fell in love with some fabrics at the Diamond Textiles booth too.

Their prints & yard dyed fabrics look beautiful together!

I love their yard dyed fabrics with prints woven into them.

So much texture & color range!

Wish I could take the booths home with me.

That would certainly make some decisions easier!

They’re all so inspiring!

All too soon we’re back home & back to work.

Where does the time go???

Enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend.

I hope it includes some quilting time!

Just Keep Sewing…

Quilt Market

Fall International Quilt Market 2018 Recap

One would think with being gone almost a week

that I would have lots of pictures to show from market, but…

We are always so busy from the time we leave until we get home that I forget to take pictures!

I did snap a shot of our almost empty booth.

Our Schoolhouse sessions were well received.

Schoolhouse is where I reserve time slots to show

& discuss my new patterns the day before Quilt Market officially starts.

“Joy to the World” is one of my favorite new Tiny Dresden quilts.

I designed the nativity scene hanger set & Ackfeld mfg. is making them.

(They’re available on my website)

“BOO” is probably my best-selling new pattern since it was introduced at Spring Quilt Market in Portland, OR.

Once our Schoolhouse sessions were over we were able to finish hanging the booth.

There was a steady stream of shoppers at this market.
That means lots of shop owners to talk to and I’m very pleased with our sales.

It does make it a bit more of a challenge for me to remember the less important stuff,

like getting our pic taken in our booth, lol!

It was the third day of market before we remembered to have a neighbor take our picture!

Robin Koehler (Nestlings by Robin) was my helper (a.k.a. slave labor) for this market.

Besides having new designs featured in various quilt magazines & catalogs,

she also has a new series of tulip quilting stencils with

Quilting Creations, which debuted at market as well!

Some are for hand quilting and some are continuous line for machine quilting.

You can find them on Creative Creation’s site here!

Unfortunately, I hardly got out of our booth to see what else came to Quilt Market.

What I did get out to see, I saw during the little bits of time before the show opened each morning.

However, between putting finishing touches on my own booth the first morning,

going to Mass as the beautiful nearby Annunciation church the second morning,

Annunciation 1970

& getting our rental van replaced the third morning… grrrr.

I always take a pic of my rentals’ license plate in case I need it to check into a hotel or WHATEVER.

It didn’t leave a lot of time for quilt market adventure…. but,

I saw a lovely new fabric line by Betsy Chutchian, Susanna’s Scraps that I really like.

Minick & Simpson also has a pretty new line, Crystal Lake, with lovely background prints,

& I really liked their adorable sand bucket!

And Regency Sussex by Christopher Wilson-Tate

is another collection that has that beautiful aged charm that I love.

Unfortunately it’s pretty blue… but those golds & neutrals!!!

We’ll see…

I hope you’ve enjoyed my little market recap.

Fall Quilt Market 2017 Recap

We’re back from Fall Quilt Market and Quilt Festival

and most of my catch-up work is complete, whew!!!

What a busy, tiring and fun trip.

Suzn+Quilts+Packing+for+Houston+2017

It took most of our kitchen to hold all the “stuff” that I packed into the van…

suznquiltspackedcabinetforhouston2017.jpg

Everything was labeled & packed tight for the 15 hour drive.

Nothing worse than listening to things rattle for hours on end.

Ask me how I know!

Suzn+Quilts+S+C+Market+Booth+Houston+2017Suzn+Quilts+S+R+Market+Booth+Houston+2017

My super booth helpers (market slaves), Robin (Nestlings by Robin)

& Chloe & I had the booth set up in no time!

That’s a bit of an exaggeration.

It did finally get set up Friday evening after

a schoolhouse session with Pepper Cory &   Studio e Fabrics & her Designer RSVP Blocks that

Robin & I participated in, making blocks with her Peppered Cottons:

No automatic alt text available.Image may contain: indoor

Yes, Robin the overachiever made 2!

Then, 2 Schoolhouse sessions showing my new Tiny & Mini Dresden plate book & patterns,

and then the C&T Schoolhouse session introducing the

13 new quilts from Dresden Quilt Workshop:

Spring Quilt Market 2017 Recap

It’s been a busy year here so far in the land of Suzn Quilts.

I have a dozen new patterns that we introduced at

Spring International Quilt Market.

It was practically in our backyard at the St. Louis convention center.

It was nice not having travel across the country to get to the show,

but oddly enough it didn’t really feel like I was at market since it was so close.

The best part (besides being with my daughter, Chloe, & my market friends)

was not having to worry about fitting everything into 4 suitcases

that weigh no more than 50 lbs. each+ 2 carry-ons.

The down side of that was more work for us since I decided we could have a bigger booth since we didn’t have to travel!

That also meant more “fluff” to bring to display with!

But, I loved the way that our booth turned out.

Between market shoppers we were able to visit with our market friends that are scattered around the country.

Diane & her sister, Linda of Puffin & Company.

They have lovely quilting and sewing tools to help those who enjoy hand work.

Celine & Molly of Perkins Dry Goods.

Celine has more beautiful patterns for those that love patchwork.

Susan of The Quilt Branch (Karen her helper had to leave early to attend a graduation).

Susan has lots of cute new designs to use that Creative Grids “House” ruler that you already have!

& we have lots of new patterns to show you!

So, stay tuned &

Just Keep Sewing…

Houston 2016 International Quilt Market

I just remembered that I hadn’t posted any photos of Houston Quilt Market 2016.

Where does the time go???

houstonbooth2016

My good friend Robin, Nestlings by Robin,

graciously offered to come along as my helper.

Chloe, my booth helper the past several years (& daughter)

took a new job that started October 31, so she wasn’t able to come along this time.

She is now working in the NICU.

I hope you never need her services, but if you do, you’re in good hands!

She is also working on her doctorate to be a Family Nurse Practitioner.

I’m so proud of her!

houstonbooth20162

My quilt-as-you-go table runners/wall quilts were very popular.

houstonbooth20163

My Tiny Dresden Seasonal Series was very popular as well.

My new favorite, Dresdens on the Square…

houstonbooth20164

I love the muted colors of my booth this market.

Several Moda designers are accounted for here:

Jo Morton, 3 Sisters, Barbara Brackman & Laundry Basket to name a few.

While there, we (quickly) took in the Dear Jane exhibit.

Robin & I are contemplating making the quilt

so it was fun to browse the color combinations…

houston2016dearjanequilt1rusttriangles

houston2016dearjanequilt2reds

The reds are gorgeous, but I think I’d get tired of just using red.

houston2016dearjanequilt3blackhearts

Robin’s favorite had the black heart secondary pattern.

houston2016dearjanequilt4tealtriangles

houston2016dearjanequilt5red

houston2016dearjanequilt6noborder

Leaving off the triangle border would eliminate a lot of work!

But don’t kid yourself, there are still 169 little blocks!

houston2016dearjanequilt7golds-browns

I really like these muted colors.

houston2016dearjanequilt8grays

Interesting pattern in the gray triangle border fabric.

houston2016dearjanequilt9blues

houston2016dearjanequilt10bright

Another secondary pattern with the color placement of blocks.

houston2016dearjanequilt11bright-black

houston2016dearjanequilt12brightwatercolor

It looks so different with brights!

houston2016dearjanequilt13closecolorstoquilt

I like the rainbow of muted colors.

It’s pretty similar to the original quilt.

houston2016dearjanequilt14origcolors

Really like this one too.

houston2016dearjanequilt15origcolors

And this one.

houston2016dearjanequilt16origcolors

And this one…

houston2016dearjanequilt17

I’m still on the fence as to whether or not I’ll start this quilt.

It’s quite a commitment!

What do you think?

Want to make one with us?

We’re still trying to figure out the time-frame.

169 blocks in the center and then another 56 on the border…

225 total blocks!

Just one per week would take 4 1/3 years.

What to do???

If I make the quilt I’ve decided it will be with civil war prints.

That’s in keeping with the original quilt.

For now though, I think I’ll

New Patterns Fall 2015

I know I’m a bit late to the party…

International Fall Quilt Market was over two weeks ago…

Moda+Fall+Quilt+market+2015

(Image from Moda’s Cutting Table Blog)

I wasn’t able to attend, but I do have new quilt patterns that would have been there. I was with my family instead since my wonderful Mother-in-law passed away the day before Chloe & I were to fly to Houston.

How appropriate that this is the first of my three new patterns.

Suzn+Quilts+Tiny+Dresden+Friends+cover+RGB

I’m sad, I’m tired & I’m so blessed to have such a wonderful family & such dear friends. Getting older is not an easy thing for anyone involved. I will miss my mother-in-law dearly. She was one of my best friends. I’m so thankful that she was able to live independently in her own home & will not be going into assisted living or to a nursing facility.

So, if you’ve been wondering why I’ve been lacking in presence here, she is one of the reasons. Also, my dad had heart surgery the day Chloe & I were to fly to Minneapolis for spring quilt market back in May. We did fly out the next day though so we didn’t miss that. I then spent the majority of the next six weeks at the hospital & then rehab with him helping him to recover from the surgery. I’m happy to report that he was able to resume baling hay this summer, his passion!  Once a farmer, always a farmer…

One of the reasons I do what I do is because of the ability to work around my family & its many schedules. I can work at any hour & stop at the drop of a hat to help whoever needs me at that moment. It started with raising our children but more recently it’s been helping with our parents.

I’m very fortunate & I’m so thankful they at least take turns!

How appropriate that this is my next new pattern.

Suzn+Quilts+My+Happy+Place#240+cover+RGB

I’m definitely in “My Happy Place” with my family & in my sewing room!!!

My third & final new pattern: Suzn+Quilts+Tiny+Dresden+Happy+Birthday+cover+RGB

All three use my Tiny Dresden Template,

SuznQuilts+Tiny+Dresden+Plate+Template+RGB+web

& “My Happy Place” also uses my Mini Dresden Template.

Suzn+Quilts+Mini+Dresden+Plate+Template+insert+front+11-24-14

Like my previous Dresden plate patterns,

the paper template is included in the pattern, but you’ll want to also purchase the plastic template because it will make your cutting so much quicker & more accurate.

Look for them on my website & hopefully soon at your local quilt shop!

Just keep sewing…

Tiny Dresdens, Mini Dresdens, Quilt-as-you go & All 3-in-1!

It’s always such a relief to FINALLY get this far…

I sent my patterns to the printer this week, yeah!!!

That means soon & very soon I’ll have new patterns to show you!

Suzn+Quilts+Millbrook+1892+Moda-4Remember this from a few months ago?

Moda’s Mill Book 1892 collection.

(I can’t believe it’s been that long!)

It takes a lot of work to finally get to this step.

I never time myself,

but believe me it takes months from the conception of a quilt design

to patterns in a bag or book, ready for you to sew.

International Spring Quilt Market is May 15-17 in Minneapolis.

I will have no less than (& perhaps more than)

two new patterns that showcase my Tiny & Mini Dresden plates,

a new Quilt-as-you-go table runner pattern,

& & &

another pattern that incorporates

both my Tiny & Mini Dresden plates with a Quilt-as-you-go lap quilt!

How about that?

I can’t wait to show them to you :)

Frosty, Suzn Quilts New Patterns Continued…

Suzn+Quilts+Frosty+#215+Cover+web

Meet Frosty!

It’s another of my Quilt-as-you-go lap quilts.

What a fun way to wrap you or a loved in on a snowy winter day!

My quilt-as-you-go lap quilts are very popular.

You can view a tutorial here.

If you’ve not made one yet, this is why you should:

They’re quick,

they’re easy,

 & they’re fun.

Once you make one, you’ll want to make more!

Frosty starts with cutting some strips.

Some of the strips have corner cut-off sewing.

Then, after you sew the strips to the foundation,

there is a bit of fusible web applique.

Sew on the binding and your lap quilt is complete!

It’s a great quilt for a grand child to cuddle under,

but it will also look good hanging on your wall all winter long.

It’s now available on my website.

Stay tuned for more!

Until next time,

Susan
