It’s a beautiful sunny morning here!

It makes it easy to get up & start to work when the sun is streaming through my sewing room windows.

Did I mention that I’ll be vending at the Kansas City Festival for Quilters next week?

The Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival is scheduled to be held June 15-17, 2017, at the Overland Park Convention Center in Overland Park, Kansas. Festival hours:

Thursday, June 15       10:00am – 6:00pm
Friday, June 16              10:00am – 6:00pm
Saturday, June 17         10:00am – 5:00pm

Admission Fees

1 day pass is $15 – online only ($17 at the door)
3 day pass is $25 – online only (not available for purchase at the Festival)
Children 12 and under will receive free admission to the festival.

I noticed that I was running low on some of the Tiny Dresden Seasonal Series kits so this morning I’m finishing those up.

New Patterns Fall 2015

I know I’m a bit late to the party…

International Fall Quilt Market was over two weeks ago…

I wasn’t able to attend, but I do have new quilt patterns that would have been there. I was with my family instead since my wonderful Mother-in-law passed away the day before Chloe & I were to fly to Houston.

How appropriate that this is the first of my three new patterns.

I’m sad, I’m tired & I’m so blessed to have such a wonderful family & such dear friends. Getting older is not an easy thing for anyone involved. I will miss my mother-in-law dearly. She was one of my best friends. I’m so thankful that she was able to live independently in her own home & will not be going into assisted living or to a nursing facility.

So, if you’ve been wondering why I’ve been lacking in presence here, she is one of the reasons. Also, my dad had heart surgery the day Chloe & I were to fly to Minneapolis for spring quilt market back in May. We did fly out the next day though so we didn’t miss that. I then spent the majority of the next six weeks at the hospital & then rehab with him helping him to recover from the surgery. I’m happy to report that he was able to resume baling hay this summer, his passion! Once a farmer, always a farmer…

One of the reasons I do what I do is because of the ability to work around my family & its many schedules. I can work at any hour & stop at the drop of a hat to help whoever needs me at that moment. It started with raising our children but more recently it’s been helping with our parents.

I’m very fortunate & I’m so thankful they at least take turns!

How appropriate that this is my next new pattern.

the paper template is included in the pattern, but you’ll want to also purchase the plastic template because it will make your cutting so much quicker & more accurate.

Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks, Volume 8!

My block, Lost Mittens, can be found on page 46.

I used various Christmas prints, plus a cute black/cream polka dot.

This would make a great scrappy Christmas quilt, using up all of your Christmas scraps don’t you think?

With just 4 of the 12″ blocks you can quickly make this 12″ x 48″ runner,

or by setting them a little differently, this 24″ x 24″ topper!

Another new Pattern, Peppermint Pizzazz

I know, you don’t hear from me in 2 months, and now it’s 2 posts in 2 days!

Well, I have 4 new patterns and a new book, so I plan to show you all of them here before I get too busy again.

So, this is new pattern #2, Peppermint Pizzazz.

It is also made with Deb Strain’s Christmas Countdown fabrics by Moda.

I didn’t think to add that info in yesterday’s post, sorry.

The fabrics should be shipping to your local quilt shop any day.

I love this pattern.

It includes a 30″ square quilt & a 13″ octagonal quilt.

The holly on the 4 peppermints are actually buttons by Just Another Button Company.

They’re perfect for setting off the mints I think.

Once all the pieces are cut it’s just fun sewing, like building a puzzle.

These will look great on a table top, lining a Christmas basket or hanging on a wall & they’re small enough to make as gifts.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I hope you had a nice day with a bit of love included too!

Along with the day-to-day business stuff I made cookies for my valentines.

I love this recipe for two reasons; they taste great and you roll them into a ball then roll the ball in sugar, not the roll out and cut sugar cookie.

Sugar Cookies

From Suzette Krummel Quilt Retreat 1999

1 cup Butter

3/4 cup Vegetable Oil

1 cup Granulated Sugar

1 cup Powdered Sugar

1 tsp. Baking Soda

4 cups Flour

1 tsp. Cream of Tartar

1 tsp. Salt

1 tsp. Vanilla

2 eggs

Decorative sugars or nonpareils

Cream butter, oil and both sugars; add eggs & vanilla. Sift dry ingredients, stir in and blend. Chill dough for 1 hour.

Roll a teaspoon of dough into a ball. Roll in decorative sugar.

Bake at 375˚ for 12 minutes. Remove to cooling rack.

Yields approx. 8 dozen cookies.

I then quilted my “Heartfelt Table Runner” a mystery I designed for my guild, but soon to be a new pattern.

I also made Valentines for my sweethearts from here.

I just printed out 4 per page onto cardstock, punched a hole and added ribbon and a message then tied them to my gifts. Isn’t she adorable?

And on that trip I took this bag

It’s my “Pack Rat Sack” and I made it the day before we left on our trip.

There is a drawstring to close up the top,

and then a cute clasp,

an inside zipper for small items,

and best of all it folds up super small for travel.

I like this kind of bag to take to the beach (wish I were back there now…) and for shopping while we’re out and about; large capacity, but light-weight.

I see a pattern in its future.

A word for the year? How about two?

I have way too much to say and do to narrow my year down to one word!

I like to start the year off with a clean slate:

Since we put Christmas away over the weekend, I’ve been looking at this bare wall in our kitchen. I’ve been in no hurry to decide what to put up. The blank shelf has been relaxing in the sunshine we’ve been having here this week…you’d think it was spring here!

Then, little by little…

I added the pretty basket vase I picked up today, then the spools I picked up last week.

Then the non-seasonal quilt that I made testing a pattern of a friend…

Then some tweaking

I’ll do some more tweaking…rearranging of my clean slate and before you know it, it will be 2013!

Does time seem to fly by as we get older, or is it just me?

Now that you’ve met my Olde St. Nick, take a look at him (and his twin) on a fast & fun table runner that is also included in this issue on page 90.

To make a table runner of your own:

First win or purchase a new copy of 100 Blocks Vol. 4

Make 2 Olde St. Nick blocks pg. 24 (see my last post for quick cutting)

Some of my favorite tools for this job include:

Wonder Under fusible web by Pellon,

an applique sheet to fuse all the pieces together on and

my machine’s button hole stitch with Sulky’s 12 wt. thread! It makes my applique “pop”!

Cut 60, 2-1/2″ red squares

Cut 1, 10″ red square

Sew the red 2-1/2″ squares into 6 rows of 10 squares each. Sew the rows together to make a 12-1/2″ x 20-1/2″ rectangle. Sew an Olde St. Nick block onto each 12-1/2″ end.

Cut 10″ red square in half diagonally. Sew a triangle onto bottom of each Olde St. Nick block as shown in photo above. Trim excess from triangles.

Quilt as desired, bind and enjoy!
