#SewPINK Blog Hop 2021

It’s my day to once again help spread awareness for breast cancer screening.

I hope every woman is aware of how important monthly self exams and especially annual mammograms are each year once you reach 40, or before if like me, you have a family history of breast cancer.

I can attest that mammograms are no fun!

I’ve been getting them regularly for nearly half my life.

Diagnostic MRIs & ultrasounds that some years for me are every 6 months instead of 12, aren’t fun either, but it beats the alternative. I also know that if they find something in their testing they’re probably catching it early & it will hopefully be easily treatable.

Early detection is so important.

There are so many reasons to try to stay healthy &

our precious new grand baby, Emma, is a good reason for me!

I’d like to offer this new little quilt pattern to make for yourself or a friend.

It measures approx. 6″ x 6″ & fits nicely on the 6 x 6 Scroll Stand by Ackfeld.

Use it as a reminder to get your annual screening.

Download the pattern for free by clicking the download button below & if you feel it in your heart to donate, see the details below.

My #SewPINK Initiative Day

Welcome!

We all have many family members & friends that have experienced breast cancer. Due to cancer research, many of them thankfully are survivors! Best chances of survival are to catch it early. Please don’t be afraid of having screening done. It’s not fun, but it’s definitely not that bad. I’ve been having intrusive screening every year since my early 30’s because of family history. It hasn’t stopped me from going every year anyway! In my experience the staff are always very thoughtful & caring. If you’ve had a bad experience, go somewhere else! If you’re nervous, take a friend to wait with you if possible. Just get it done.

Would you like to make a sweet little quilt for a dear friend that may be going through treatments now or maybe is a breast or other cancer survivor?

Maybe you just want to make a cute little quilt?

I designed this “pink” quilt for those of us that don’t want the constant reminder of cancer, but instead, love.

Just a couple of Mini Dresden plates,

a few flowers and a few spools.

I enjoyed making this sweet little quilt &

Tamara did an awesome job quilting it!

I love the way the light catches all those beautiful feathers.

It’s available now on my website in both printed and PDF versions.

I also have a limited number of fabric kits available there too.

We believe breast cancer awareness is important all year,

and although we emphasize it in October

(Breast Cancer Awareness Month),

our continuous goal is to provide resources and awareness year-round.

Please visit these other blogs for more pink fun & also to donate.

WELCOME TO #SEWPINK 2019

Welcome to #SewPINK 2019

Welcome to the

#SewPINK 2019 Blog Hop,

~~~~~
THE INAUGURAL BREAST CANCER AWARENESS INITIATIVE FOR BYANNIE.COM
~~~~~

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), and for 2019, ByAnnie.com is proud to announce that we are raising the banner of awareness worldwide with the #SewPINK initiative with over 20 celebrity bloggers.

I got involved because I too have family & friends that have been diagnosed with breast cancer,

some more than once.

The #SewPink Initiative was created by ByAnnie.com LLC to raise awareness for breast cancer during October’s Breast Cancer Awareness month. They have pledged to raise funds to donate to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation through sales and to promote action through giveaways.

~~~~~
Years ago I designed a quilt pattern, Quilt For Hope
for quilters to make a quick lap size quilt
to comfort friends and family that may be battling breast cancer.
It’s one of my signature Quilt-as-you-sew patterns so it’s quick & easy!
It could also be made in any color to associate it to another type of cancer.
Sewing it with a flannel or Snuggle fabric on the back makes it even more cuddly.
~~~~~

This month ByAnnie.com will donate 30% on all PINK products in their online store to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).

~~~~~
  • Wonder Clips ™
  • Zippers (Lipstick-Raspberry-Crazy Plum-Wild Plum)
  • Mesh Fabric (Lipstick)
  • Quick Turn Fabric Tube Turner
  • Protect and Grip Thimble, medium size
  • Seam Fix Seam Ripper
  • Add-A-Quarter Ruler
  • Topstitch Needles #90/14
  • Tickled Pink Pattern
~~~~~

To donate directly to the BCRF visit: https://give.bcrf.org/give/31404/#!/donation/checkout

Together, hopefully every dollar will eventually make

a significant difference in finding a cure.

Please check us all out & join us to donate to the cause.

As you follow along on this #SewPINK journey,

consider projects of your own and ways you can share support and awareness.

There are many ways to sew needful items for those going through treatments.

Look online for groups to help out.

ByAnnie is offering a daily and weekly social media prize!

Find the details for entry and the prizes on their #SewPINK information page.

I too will be donating 30% of the sales of my Quilt For Hope pattern.

You can find it here on my Quilt-as-you-go page of my website.

Most importantly,

everyone, please talk with your healthcare provider

about when & how often to have a mammogram.

Strip Quilt Secrets – My Blog Day

Hello,

Strip Quilt Secrets

Blog Hoppers!

Welcome to my blog!

I hope you’ve been enjoying seeing what

Strip Quilt Secrets is all about.

I love it when I pick up a quilting book and learn something new.

Since I’m not a scrappy quilter I learned a LOT about buying fabric, cutting strips & even the best ways to store your fabrics for scrap quilting.

I never even gave thought to these things before now.

No wonder her scrappy quilts are so beautiful & precise!

In reading her book cover to cover

(can’t tell you the last time, if ever, I’ve done that.)

I was fascinated by Diane’s instructions to cut triangles from

2 1/2″ (jelly roll) strips

to make half-square triangles that measure 2 1/2″ (unfinished)!

I rather like her Aunt Elsie Quilt.

And although I don’t have an Aunt Elsie,

my husband’s dear grandmother was named Elsie.

I decided to try out Diane’s “Triangles from Strips” technique

& make an Elsie block.

I was amazed that the pressed half-square triangle was exactly 2 1/2″!Pretty awesome!

Diane also suggests the best way to press the hst’s to get them the flattest they can be.

I quickly made the 8 hst’s

& cut a few 2 1/2″ squares from the same 2 1/2″ strips for the block.

Before I sewed the squares together I decided to audition the block both ways…

Just one more 2 1/2″ square could change the whole look of the block.

I decided to sew it as first imagined.

But if you know me…

You know that I literally cannot imagine sewing something without little Dresden plates!!!

Instead I belabored a couple of border fabrics

then completed a preemie quilt top.

Once again I contemplated including a Tiny Dresden plate in the center…

These things can literally go just about ANYWHERE!

But alas I quilted & bound it without the Dresden addition.

How cute is just one little Aunt Elsie block?

I have to say, these tips have changed the way I think about scrappy quilts!

They’re not scary at all anymore.

Thanks, Diane!

Would you like a chance to win a copy of Strip Quilt Secrets?

to be entered into a drawing for your own copy of Strip Quilt Secrets.

I’ll draw Sunday by 6 p.m.
