Rosemary’s 2016

It’s another January

which mean’s another quilt retreat to Rosemary’s!

Suzn+Quilts+Rosemarys+Quilt+Shop

In case you don’t remember, Rosemary’s is a quilt shop in Highland, IL.

Rosemary has a retreat center that consists of sleeping quarters & a sewing room with lots of authentic restaurants within a couple blocks; Chinese, Italian & Mexican to name our favorites, but there are many more.

A great weekend spent with good friends

(at least the ones that didn’t have family obligations to tend to)

& no cooking or cleaning.

Loraine must have been shopping during this one…

My “spot” for the weekend.

Spending valuable time with some of my other best friends

(Moda & Roxanne)

Making new friends

only after they promised to get along with my other friends.

It may appear that I bought the same polka dot fabric twice, but Rosemary & I were a bit chatty & weren’t paying attention to her measuring; a side affect of being in good company!

It’s OK, I’m going to cut it into little pieces just to sew it back together anyway.

(crazy!?!?!?)

(short) Overnight drying time…

My field of dreams, ahhhh.

Can’t get enough.

I hope you’re getting time to work on your favorites too.

Just keep sewing!

Yet another Moda loving moment

Did I ever tell you the reason I quilt is so my family doesn’t accidentally die in a fabric avalanche?

Well, it’s true.

My name is Susan and I have a fabric addiction.

I didn’t get it from my mother, she still has hers…

Perhaps I have mine & my sister’s since she also learned to sew from our mom, but she hasn’t been afflicted with the fabric thing.

I-love-fabric!

So when a box like this shows up,

Moda+Box+1-14although I ordered it and I know what’s inside,

it’s like Christmas morning and I’m a kid again!

I know Christmas is now over,

but in my world it’s just starting

or really it never ended because I’ve been working on new

Christmas designs since I got home from fall market…

The new Moda Christmas fabric samples are now available.

Let me introduce Winterlude by 3 Sisters for Moda due in quilt shops in June:

Winterlude+watermarkChristmas is my most favorite season and my most favorite reason to quilt.

Next is Through the Winter Woods by Holly Taylor for Moda due in quilt shops in May:

Through+the+Winter+Woods+1-14I guess it’s the red/green combination that I’m drawn to, not sure.

What I do know is that I have plane tickets for Chloe & me to go to Pittsburgh on May 14, where spring market is this year and I have a lot of work to do!

Do you have any requests of patterns you’d like to see?

I’ve been working on small Christmas quilt designs.

I had so many shops comment on my mini Vintage Play quilt at market.

VP+miniMy new designs aren’t this small,

but I thought I’d start there and see where else the spirit leads me!

Do you get inspired by the fabric?

Not sure where I’m heading, but it’s going to be with some lovely fabric!

Thanks, Moda!

Until next time,

Susan

Have you heard?

2014-Quilt-Shop-Day-250x250.gif

The second annual “Visit Your Local Quilt Shop Day” is Saturday, January 25, 2014!

It’s a great way to support your local quilt shop around the world.

You don’t need to do anything special,

BUT if you

visit a participating quilt shop,

photograph yourself there & add a caption of why it’s your favorite shop,

then upload the image to

http://ww.quiltshopday.com

you will be entered for a chance to win a $100 shopping spree in that store!

You (& your friends) can vote on the website once a day during a six-day period

following January 25.

Winners will be announced in early February.

Sound like fun?

If you don’t wish to do the photo thing,

just go visit your local quilt shop anyway and pick out a new project for the new year.

Tell them I sent you!

Until next time,

Susan

Out Quilt Shoppin’

It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it!

That’s right, buying fabric.

This is how they looked on the bolts,

and this is how they look sitting on my work table.

(next to some of my new threads)

Also shown is my Garden Trellis pattern that I’m making with these new fabrics.

I’m teaching this quilt at a workshop next month and decided I wanted another sample.

Garden Trellis has been one of my best-sellers since I dreamed it up in 2005.

That’s right, I dreamed it!

I literally woke up and came downstairs and sketched it and the next day sewed it.

David thought (& still thinks) I was crazy, but how crazy is it now that it’s one of my top-selling patterns???

Do you ever dream in quilting?

Time to sew…

More Amelia

These days my “work brain” is all about Houston’s Fall Market the end of October.  Deciding what to showcase at market is always a hard decision.  After the decision is made, things always seem to go a bit smoother.

Fall market is the time of year that shops are purchasing the items that they will supply their shops with in the new year. These items are things to take your mind off of the cold, dreary, wintry days.  One of the things that can usually do this is sewing for spring.

Today, after our guild meeting, I was thinking more “Amelia”!

I know I already showed you a sneak peek of my newest creation last week that was also made with “Amelia”, but I decided that I wanted to make some of my “Charm Pack Garland” to hang in my booth too.

It’s one of my “Tiny Treasures” patterns, a fast & fun pattern that makes a cute garland for a Christmas tree, but it also can be made to hang anywhere, anytime.

Last week I noticed Sweet Annie’s, a local shop, had their Amelia pre-cuts already. I decided I’d better get them while I still could.  Next month the yardage will be available. I hope to have my samples made by then!  This is going to be too cute…

A Cute Itty Bitty Primitive Pinwheel Quilt

The beginning of June you might remember me chatting about Celine Perkins of Perkins Dry Goods coming to teach at our guild’s Quilt Away 2011.

While Celine was here we took in a few quilt shops and the Hearts & Hands Quilt Guild’s quilt show.  That was a very nice show with lots of vendors! While there we both fell in love with Betty Cummings’  (Village Mercantile in Booneville, IN) Itty Bitty Primitive Pinwheel quilt.  She was selling kits so we each bought one to sew the next day. I was lucky enough that Celine stayed a couple extra days and we got to have our own mini retreat. We see each other during International Quilt Market each year, but we’re always so busy we’ve never had a chance just to sew and visit for fun.

I finally got mine quilted this week and finished the binding too.

Isn’t it cute?  The pattern and template are by Primitive Gatherings.  I added some of my own civil war prints to the kit. It’s fun to do someone else’s patterns once in a while too!

Celine, is yours done yet???

Until next time,

Susan
