Get ready for Halloween with this fun little quilt that not only uses

my Mini Dresden Plate Template,

but also my Tiny Tree Template Set!

Do you see how the hats are my tiny trees,

but instead of a tree trunk I added a brim?

I know, pretty clever…

I used a Halloween charm pack,

but you can use your favorite Halloween fabrics.

There are paper templates in the pattern,

& if you already have the templates you’re set,

but if not they’re available on my website here.

My Life, New Pattern Sample

Fall, Shmall….

Am I the only one on this planet that doesn’t like fall???

I hate winter,

so fall just seems like a precursor each year

that I cannot joyfully wrap my head around.

Fortunately with this pandemic

I’ve not been bombarded with it since July 5th.

I’ve been harbored here for what seems like forever in one instance,

then not so much the next.

It’s been EXACTLY 6 months TODAY

I’ve been quarantining in my abode.

How can that be?

I calculate I’ve walked approximately 450 miles!

(really it’s the same 2.5 miles every day, lol.)

The exception is a handful of really humid or rainy days

that I wimped out

and decided to walk inside on our treadmill.

I did put away my summer door decoration last week

& put up my pretty fall door wreath.

Writing the instructions for the new basket quilt pattern

I decided to make a basket block to double check my dimensions.

I used this awesome buffalo gingham check

to make the basket.

Since I already had 1 gold Tiny Dresden plate

hanging out with nowhere to go

it seemed like the perfect opportunity

to use it and make just 1 more.

Well, or course it added a fall feel right away don’t you think?

Now I want to make more!

Instructions are about finished.

Hopefully Tamara will have my top quilted soon.

I cannot wait!

Applique quilt projects, Dresden Plate Quilt, New Quilt pattern sample

Laborious Labor Day 2020

Carnivals canceled, large groups not allowed,

what are you doing this Labor Day Weekend?

Today I’m sewing,

making circles for my ongoing new pattern sample.

Have you seen bits of the construction already,

perhaps on FB or IG?

I’m mostly using Cider by Basic Grey for Moda.

 

So far I’ve made all the baskets.

The stripe fabric is the only non Cider fabric.

Next I made the pile of petals into plates!

So this afternoon it’s on to center circles.

The Apliquick Bars are my best friends for making

perfect applique shapes with freezer paper!!!

My Life, Third Thursday Thread Sisters

What Are You Binding Wednesday, Hard Crackers

A lot of quilters that I know hate to bind a quilt.

I don’t understand that mindset.

I LOVE to bind quilts!

I love the process & more than anything

I can’t wait to finally see the finished quilt!

Today I’m binding a small & scrappy quilt, Hard Crackers.

Several months ago, pre-COVID19,

Heather & I established a new sewing group.

We decided to meet once a month

& sew on the same agreed upon quilt.

We would meet on the third Thursday & so

the Third Thursday Thread Sisters (TTTS) was formed.

Well, the very first month we were

supposed to meet we were under quarantine.

We decided to form a group text instead

to share & to show progress of our little quilts from 10:00 or so until noon or so…

It seems fortuitous now looking back at the origin of our sewing group.

The idea came from a guild presentation.

It was a group of quilters doing the same thing.

They came and showed their little quilts, many from this book.

It just so happened that Martingale was having a super sale!

So, we acted quickly,

deciding on a couple of books to use for the basis of our quilts.

Again, fortuitous don’t you think?

I made the first choice.

Since we had 9 in our group,

I made a smaller version of this quilt

to accommodate our signatures.

Since the quarantine continued, to help us keep in touch,

we decided to sew each Thursday instead of just the third.

These are my blocks from the first quilt…

but whilst making them I decided they were too light.

I wanted them to hang near my new table runner.

Meanwhile, the next 3rd Thursday was approaching…

Bonnie chose Lizzie’s Tents.

I remade my blocks.

I love the quilt!

So far we’ve assigned 3 quilts, one per month.

Since the third Thursday is this week

I was determined to finish my June quilt.

I finished the top last week.

This morning I layered, quilted then sewed the binding to the quilt.

Tonight I will do the handwork to complete it!

Tomorrow we start our next quilt!

Perhaps you should start a sewing group

with some of the quilting friends you’re missing.

I’m so thankful for this connection with

some of my quilting friends

during this surreal time.

Christmas Sewing, new quilt patterns

Final New Christmas Pattern; Merry Christmas

Today’s new pattern is

Merry Christmas!

This will make a perfect size pillow as well as a quilt.

Just one Mini Dresden plate,

2 Tiny Dresden plates

& a bit of fusible web appliqué.

This is a great pattern to start with

if you’ve never made a Dresden plate before.

The pattern includes paper templates,

but my plastic templates make the cutting quicker & more accurate.

Christmas Sewing, Dresden Plate Quilt, new quilt patterns

Another New Christmas Pattern; Dresden Town Square

Today’s new pattern is Dresden Town Square.

It has a lot of the same blocks as my Dresden Village quilt;

new last fall.

I sometimes forget that not everyone is as excited

to be challenged by a quilt like I am.

So, if you like my cute little house blocks & my little Dresden plates,

perhaps you’d like to start with this little cutie.

The hardest part of this quilt is the fabric choices…

It uses my Tiny & Mini Dresden templates

for the Dresden plates.

After that just few little houses & it’s done!

It’s a cute little quilt that you can experiment

with making just a few little Dresden plates & not be overwhelmed.
