Dresden Quilt Workshop Quilt-Along Week #16

Week # 16

Please keep posting & sending me pics of your blocks!

If you’re not part of my Facebook group, Dresden Quilt Workshop,

head over there & sign up so you too can share & see all the progress.

This week we will again refer to

Friendship Garden page 75.

This week we will take the remaining 4 Tiny Dresden plates,

made during Week 15, and make 1 beautiful block.

This block isn’t printed in Dresden Quilt Workshop “as is”, BUT that’s the fun part!

(No whining!!!)

Everything you need is right here & in the Friendship Garden quilt instructions.

(This is why I named it “Dresden Quilt Workshop Challenge, remember?)

First thing you’ll want to do is decide on background fabric for each of the

4 Tiny Dresden plates.

Then decide what the flying geese point fabrics will be.

(No need to make this beautifully staged layout, but it was fun!)

Yes, I’m aware I’m weird. I’m #5 of 6 kids, so I’ve been told plenty of times…

Then you’ll want to be sure you still have “the right” Tiny Dresden on “just the right” background print…

No indecision here, lol!!!

Then choose just the right center fabric for each plate.

Then sew the 4 blocks together.

That’s it!

Just 1 block this week ;)

Have fun & have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Just Keep Sewing…

This week we will take 3 of the Tiny Dresden plates from last week

& sew each of them into a churn dash block.

Fun,

& more fun!

A Giveaway!, Dresden Quilt Workshop Quilt-Along

Winner (finally…)

Sorry, I’ve been a bit busy since getting home from Quilt Market.

I’m really enjoying seeing the progress of all of the little Dresden plate sewing,

so thanks for sharing your pics with us over at the Dresden Quilt Workshop FB group.

I want to give away this lovely fat 1/8th bundle

of Jen Kingwell’s Looking Forward collection by Moda.

So pretty!

Our winner is Susie Brown!

Since Susie is sewing her Dresden Quilt Workshop sampler with

Jen Kingwell’s Circulus & Lollies Sweet (like mine),

I’m sure she’s going to love this bundle.

Thanks again to everyone who is sewing along & sharing with us.

The fun will continue with Week #15 on Wednesday.

Until then,

Just Keep Sewing…

This week we will refer to

 Friendship Garden page 75.

Don’t you love the way these white Tiny Dresdens POP?

This week you’ll just be making 7 Tiny Dresden plates to pop inside upcoming blocks.

You may want to take a look at where they will sit in the quilt to help you make fabric decisions, or not.

Maybe you just want to pick out some pretty fabrics & start sewing.

I of course had to make all kinds of decisions up front.

Once those decisions were made, it was on to the fun stuff!

I’m having fun looking back at the evolution of this quilt.

Thanks for taking this journey with me!

I hope you’re enjoying it as much as I did, and am!

My favorite #!!!

Don’t ask me why.

It just is!

How appropriate that it landed on Halloween?

Please keep posting & sending me pics of your blocks!

As of today, there are just as many numbers inside the bottle as outside!

We’re halfway done, time-wise that is.

Block-wise, we’re much farther than that.

Yay!

This week we will refer to

 Spring Fair, page 70.

I like a lot of things about this quilt;

the colors, the movement & the little Dresdens of course.

For some reason I really like using 2 fabrics for the little petals.

Just 2 Mini Dresden plates this week.

By now, you too should be able to make little Dresden plates with your eyes closed practically.

Don’t you feel that your skill at making the little Dresdens has increased with practice?

Can you also tell why I LOVE making them so much?

Is it just me???

I made these 2 Mini Dresden blocks at the same time I was making the Mini Dresden block from Week #12.

Remember this pile o’ petals?

Pretty!!!

Not a lot of decisions to make this week.

Straightforward fun!

Yes, I said fun.

Don’t you agree?

Since we’re at the half-way mark,

we need a bit of encouraging fun.

Since we have new quilters joining us every week,

we’ll do something different.

Once you finish these 2 Mini Dresden blocks for Week #13,

post your pics over at the Facebook group,

Dresden Quilt Workshop,

for you chance to win

the second fat 1/8 bundle of Jen Kingwell’s newest line

Looking Forward:

Perhaps I’ll see her at Quilt Market this week.

I can’t wait to see what new “stuff” she has been working on for us next.

How can you not be enticed to get sewing???

Don’t worry, you have plenty of time.

Since we’re away at market this week,

I won’t have the drawing until we return home.

You have until Wednesday November 7th, 2018 at noon!

Sorry but you’ll need to be a U.S. participant to win.

Please keep posting & sending me pics of your blocks!

If you’re not part of my Facebook group, Dresden Quilt Workshop,

head over there & sign up so you too can share & see all the progress.

This week we will refer to

Follow Me, page 65.

I can’t believe how quickly these weeks are passing.

Can you?

This week is just 1 Mini Dresden plate,

1 Tiny Dresden plate,

& 9 flying geese blocks.

Not too bad.

I actually made 3 Mini Dresden plates at once as I was making this one.

Remember me telling you that I made this entire quilt top in about 2 weeks?

It makes sense to assembly line piece blocks,

especially when you’re determined to get it done as quickly as possible,

which I ALWAYS am!

Pretty fun I think.

In case you’re having Dresden Quilt Workshop Sampler envy &

wish you had bought a kit with the Circulus & Lollies Sweet like my quilt,

You’re in luck!

I still have a few kits left on my website.

Just think, next week we’ll be at the half way mark!

This week we will refer to

Dresden Ohio page 61.

Look how far we’re getting!

Just 1 block this week,

& just 1 Tiny Dresden plate!

I had a pretty good grasp of what fabrics I wanted to use in this block.

That always makes the assembly go so much quicker.

& just 1 measly Tiny Dresden plate.

Not too hard, huh?

I hope you enjoy this block!

This week we will a refer to

Shimmering Dresdens page 57.

Just 2 Dresden puzzle blocks this week.

I didn’t have much trouble making fabric choices for these blocks.

These were fun!

Our outdoor critters were having fun too as I look back at this time last year…

Mabel was showing Nemo her latest victim…

& why she has to brag about them to me I do not know!

The benefits of living in the country.

Anyway…

These blocks were fun and fast!

Hopefully yours will be too!

Do you have as much fun as I do putting Tiny Dresdens into blocks?

This week we will a refer to

 Star-Spangled Dresdens page 45.

I love how dynamic this block is!

I think the addition of the Tiny Dresden plate in the center is perfect.

You’ll be making 2 of these blocks this week.

IMHO they go together pretty effortlessly.

I’ll be curious if you think so too.

I don’t recall having any reservations about my fabric choices.

I was excited to try this block out in other fabrics besides the patriotic feeling original color scheme.

& I think it works well in these Jen Kingwell prints!

& these Jen Kingwell prints too!

By now do you too have a pretty basket full of coordinating scraps?

This is where my creative brain wants to take that basket full of scraps and make something else as awesome as this quilt…. it just doesn’t quit!

Unfortunately time has a way of sneaking in and telling me “NO!”.

This is also where I finished another large spool of my most-favorite #1180, Medium Taupe!

It’s no wonder since I use this thread almost exclusively in my quilting.

Besides the bubble gum pink/poison green plates pictured with the spools,

I also used it for this whole quilt; piecing & applique for the plates too.

It blends so well with so many of my fabric choices.

I also had fun matching things up to see how the design as a whole was progressing…

2 more blocks.

This week we will a refer to

Crossroads page 40.

We will be making just 1 measly Tiny Dresden block

& 2 very simple 9-Patch blocks.

Simple, simple, simple.

It was so simple that I didn’t even take any pics of fabric choices.

You’re seasoned little Dresden plate makers now,

so you’ll be able to do this week’s work with 1 hand tied behind your back. Lol!

Perhaps you can use some of your extra time this week getting caught up with some of your other quilting projects.
