Tiny Halloween Quilts

Is Candy Corn Sampler too daunting a project for you?

Perhaps you’d like a Tiny (Dresden plate) Halloween quilt???

All of these patterns are small & use my Tiny Dresden Plate Template.

Both these quilts display perfectly on the 6 x 6 Scroll Frame,

which can be found on my website by clicking here.

BOO is one of my favorite Halloween patterns!

BOO makes a great workshop!

I love this pillow that I made from my BOO pattern!

These two are new.

Tiny With Chats doesn’t use Tiny Dresden Plate Template, but instead uses Mini Dresden Plate & Tiny Tree Template Set.

All of these Halloween patterns & more

can be found on my website by clicking here.

I hope you find one that you would like to sew up!

My Life, New Notions

Circle, Circles & More Circles

Yesterday while I was running errands

I bopped into a local flea market

& found that a new one popped up 2 doors down!

While there I spied this cool lithograph tin.

In case you don’t really know me…

I’m a sucker for junk that holds other junk!!!

There must be a term for people like me… (besides crazy…).

How cool is this one?

Right away I knew that my 1″ circles would fit perfectly!

I could also put 1/2″ circles in the small end.

However, that would last 30 seconds until they would all be mixed together, so no!

They will stay in their own tin.

Then 2 doors down I spied 2 tins that would hold my new size circles; 1 1/2″.

This morning I remembered that I hadn’t tried out my new 1 1/2″

circle cutters that I ordered in last month yet.

Within 5 minutes I filled the two new tins.

Voila, 216 circle templates!

Ready to start making some doll heads,

or Tiny/Mini plates for Dresden Village

or Around The Block.

Or something new…

I love cutting ahead.

It keeps me organized &

the fact that I don’t have to stop what I’m doing to get the freezer paper out

& meticulously cut circles is heavenly!

Just count out as many circle templates that I need,

whatever size I need

& start pressing them to the fabric.

That’s how I get so much done.

I’m basically lazy, true story!

Each size template has it’s own cool tin.

If you’ve had me in for a workshop you know that I’m good at sharing too.

This is my traveling workshop tin.

I bring it full of templates for the project I’m teaching & I share!

The 1 1/2″ circle cutters are now on the “Notions” page of my website.

Hopefully it’s just in time for your next Suzn Quilts project.

If you’re interested in having me come teach for your guild

check out my “Workshop” page for pricing & offerings.

Planning to get lots of sewing done this weekend, you?

Holiday Sewing, My Life

Happy St. Patrick’s Day 2019

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Do you need an excuse to sew a little green?

If so, here’s a tiny inspiration!

It’s just part of my Tiny Dresden Seasonal Series.

A cute little quilt (6″ x 8″) that hangs conveniently on this adorable stand.

Included in each pattern are the instructions

to make a little sleeve so the quilt will hang perfectly.

Once you have that quilt made you’ll want to make one for each month!

A unique way to decorate a little corner of your or a loved one’s abode.

You can find it all here,

including the patterns, stands, notions & fabric kits while they last.

Doing my best to inspire you!

Just keep sewing (green)…

A Giveaway!, Dresden Quilt Workshop Quilt-Along

Winner (finally…)

Sorry, I’ve been a bit busy since getting home from Quilt Market.

I’m really enjoying seeing the progress of all of the little Dresden plate sewing,

so thanks for sharing your pics with us over at the Dresden Quilt Workshop FB group.

I want to give away this lovely fat 1/8th bundle

of Jen Kingwell’s Looking Forward collection by Moda.

So pretty!

Our winner is Susie Brown!

Since Susie is sewing her Dresden Quilt Workshop sampler with

Jen Kingwell’s Circulus & Lollies Sweet (like mine),

I’m sure she’s going to love this bundle.

Thanks again to everyone who is sewing along & sharing with us.

The fun will continue with Week #15 on Wednesday.

Until then,

Dresden Plates, New ideas

I’m Making Stitches, Are You?

I know I’ve been neglectful of this blog the last few months.

Besides having 12 new patterns for spring market,

helping with my son’s wedding this past July,

going on our family’s summer vacation

and then the release of my new book,

I’ve been busy & you must have thought that I had dropped from the face of the earth.

I had not.

In fact I’ve been working A LOT!

I don’t know about you,

but this time of year I pop my head up and wonder where summer went!

I’ve been stitching.

Besides the new sampler that I’m working on with Circulus & Lollies Sweet that I showed you earlier this week,

I recently finished a new Tiny Dresden little quilt.

I used an American Jane charm pack plus a cute black dot print.

I’ve also been writing instructions for these feathered star blocks.

I designed them just the right size to have a Tiny Dresden plate appliqued in the center!

So, are you intrigued?

Have you made a feathered star quilt before?

Do you think they’re hard or do-able?

I once thought they were extremely difficult, but no more!

You’ll think so too when you get one of my patterns, not any day soon though.

You’ll have to wait a while longer until I can get my quilt finished (designing & sewing…)

and the rest of the pattern written.

So far I’ve made 4 blocks

and I think that I have all of the step-by-step illustrations just about perfect!

Just as I was finishing those step-by-step illustrations, wondering if I was going a bit overboard, I got the nicest email out of the blue from Dana who had just finished making a quilt from one of my patterns:

Your pattern was very easy to follow . . . it was like you were sitting here telling me what to do next!! I like that!
Have a blessed day . . .
Dana

Needless to say, in my opinion, that’s the nicest compliment a designer/author can get.

It’s also the affirmation that I needed just then.

Knowing that I hadn’t wasted the weeks

I had just spent on those illustrations for just part of that pattern was nice.

Unfortunately, I don’t know what direction the quilt is going just yet,

hence the reason I put it on the back burner to work on my sampler quilt.

Stay tuned.

We’ll all be surprised together, Lol!!!

What have you been stitching?

I hope something fun!

Paradise Petals

I’ve been making Morris Earthly Paradise Tiny Dresden petals…

Suzn+Quilts+box+of+sewn+Morris+petals

Trimming…

I feel like I’m gardening.

Suzn+Quilts+Morris+petal+stacks

I have 21 different floral prints…

nicely tended in rows…

because I don’t want to accidentally sew a petal into the wrong plate!

With a bit of help from Betsy

Suzn+Quilts+Helper+Betsy

I’m able to keep the string of sewn petals wrinkle-free and untangled.

Thanks, Betsy!

What are you doing in this heat?

I saw this morning that over 118 million of us are experiencing triple digit heat!

Thankfully it’s raining here right now.

Tiny Dresden Plate Seasonal Series Kits

Christmas break is officially over &

it’s a balmy 12 degrees here this morning if you don’t count the wind chill.

TDKits+January

To that I say, “Let the snow fly, I’m cutting kits!”

Suzn+Quilts+Tiny+Dreden+boxed+Kits

Great little projects to keep the flying snow at bay…

Suzn+Quilts+Tiny+Dresden+retail+brochureDo you remember me showing you these here?

They’re great little projects.

You can either make them all this winter while the snow flies or

make one each month.

If your local quilt shop doesn’t yet have them, get yours here at Suzn Quilts.

Keep warm!

Until next time,

Tiny Dresden Seasonal Series

Back in May, just in time for spring market in Pittsburgh, I got the brainy idea to design a series of

REALLY TINY seasonal quilts to fit a tiny,

Ackfeld Wire 6 x 6 frame.

Ackfeld+6x6+stand+88017

I wanted to use my new Tiny Dresden Template,

Tiny+Dresden+Template

& I wanted the quilts to be seasonal, one for each month.

Within a week, I had the samples ready to go to market (in hind sight, that was the easy part)

but then once market was over came the task of creating the twelve patterns!

  • writing
  • testing
  • editing
  • photographing
  • pricing
  • more testing
  • sending files
  • ordering buttons & charms
  • waiting…
