More on my Quilt-as-you-go patterns

I’ve had questions, and after thinking about it, I decided I should have included a link

from my last post about the new U of I quilt I was making

to this post about my quilt-as-you-go lap quilt tutorial.

So much to think about, and I was already stretching my brain to sew and document at the same time so I could blog about it for you…

Whether you’re thinking about my best-selling pattern

or one of my earlier quilt as you go patterns:

check out the tutorial to get a better understanding of how quick & easy these really are.

You truly can make one of these in a day!

Miles of Charm Pack Garland, coming up…

Last week while I was in Bloomington, I found the Odds & Ends pre-cuts.

Ever since I designed my Charm Pack Garland pattern, each market I make new strands in coordinating fabrics to drape around in my booth. So…I bought a couple of charm packs.

The yardage always takes longer to arrive in shops, so I’m going to use a Moda solid that matches really well.

These are fun and fast since the cutting of the squares is already done for you.

Stay tuned, lots of new patterns are almost ready!

Until next time,

Susan

Oh, how I LOVE color!

Is it just me…

or could you too, sit and sew with these all day long?

I love color(s)!

This is more of Julie Comstock’s new Odds and Ends fabric line by Moda.

I’ve given you a couple of glimpses of it recently,

but yesterday I received a bit more for a few projects that I’m working on for market next month.

Yikes, that’s way too soon!

I noticed as I moved our

latte bowls from Anthropologie

from this serving (not tray, not platter, not bowl) whatever it is,

that the colors of some of the bowls matched the fabrics perfectly.

Color!!!

This is our kitchen table centerpiece this summer.

My daughter Clare and I bought these at Anthropologie last winter, one of every color they had.

When we brought them home,

they landed on this cool platter with wire base…thing.

How perfect to set our useless adorable little latte bowls on.

They make me smile, kind of like a new box of 64 crayons.

It would seem Clare has a few of my genes, she talked me into buying them.

Back to the fabric…

You can see the whole collection at Moda.

I like to go here and look at “Future Groups” to see what’s coming out.

Odds and Ends is due out this month, so check you local quilt shops.

I need to get sewing.

I’ve got some quilts to name (hint, hint).  ;)

Home again, Home again, Jiggety jig!

…and I’m so glad and so exhausted!

There’s a lot of physical labor required for attending market, both as a vendor & shopper.

I was fortunate enough to have my daughter, Chloe help me out again.

This shows our booth after everything was moved in and the drapes were hung.

Since we drove a short 4 hours to Kansas City this year, we could bring along some fun props.

This is a photo of the booth almost set-up, Chloe filing a broken nail?  Lots of that happening!

You would not believe all the compliments we got on the hanging chairs!!!

Market was great, with lots of shop owners walking the floor & shopping!

We handed out over 600 brochures.

Here are some of our first shoppers.

I’ve said it many times before, but I’ll say it again. There are so many nice people in the quilting industry!!!

We had many compliments on our booth and the quilts.

Of course my favorite part is taking orders and sharing the weekend with friends that I’ve met over the years while attending market.

More photos of market neighbors & friends to come.

Until next time,

For Everything there is a Season

Who knows what season it is outside this week?

It is Winter

It looks like Spring.

It feels like Summer!

Just the middle of March, and the extended 7 day forecast here in the lower half of Illinois is 80+ degrees EVERY DAY!

My flowers are blooming!

Inside it’s Spring Quilt Market Prep Season!

I’ve been picking and pruning my “Salt Air” and adding a few others that are acting like fertilizer, making the pretty stuff prettier!

It’s fun to FINALLY cut into this stuff.  When it’s early in the season, with a limited supply of the good stuff, I can’t bear to cut until I know for sure the design is just right!

And this is what I’m working on today.

How about you?  Are you doing your spring gardening yet?

Until next time,

Out Quilt Shoppin’

It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it!

That’s right, buying fabric.

This is how they looked on the bolts,

and this is how they look sitting on my work table.

(next to some of my new threads)

Also shown is my Garden Trellis pattern that I’m making with these new fabrics.

I’m teaching this quilt at a workshop next month and decided I wanted another sample.

Garden Trellis has been one of my best-sellers since I dreamed it up in 2005.

That’s right, I dreamed it!

I literally woke up and came downstairs and sketched it and the next day sewed it.

David thought (& still thinks) I was crazy, but how crazy is it now that it’s one of my top-selling patterns???

Do you ever dream in quilting?

Time to sew…

Until next time,

Susan
