It’s that time of year again,
Fall Quilt Market (& post-season baseball) in Houston!
This is not the first time that we’ve shared downtown Houston with baseball fans.
I hope the Astros do well in the series,

Chloe & I traveled to Kansas City last week to attend International Quilt Market.
It was great spending time with her & some of our market friends
including Susan Knapp of The Quilt Branch,
& her helper Karen Bailey.
Lucky for me, KC is a relatively short drive so we had a double booth
and I was able to pack some of my favorite goodies for display.
It was nice to talk to lots of old friends and to make lots of new ones too!
Lots of little Dresdens happening here!
We also showed my new quilt-as-you-go runner/placemat & lap quilt patterns.
Since I’m always busy each day in my own booth,
we have to go early to walk the rest of the show
or we have no idea what else it there.
We were able to see Moda’s new fabric collections that will be available later this year.
I chose postcards of my favorites…
Lella Boutique has a beautiful, soft collection with pretty greens & blues that I liked.
Minick & Simpson’s Northport group looks stunning as their groups always do.
I love the neutrals of Primitive Gatherings’ Urban Farmhouse Gatherings.
Betsy Chutchian’s Sarah’s Story has some of the same colors
as her Savanna’s Scraps so it would be easy to use the two groups together.
Sandy Klop’s Bubble Pop is adorable.
She put my black & cream polka dots in this collection!!!
I guess I’m not the only one who thinks her rainbow colors
are only made better with black & dots…
You’ll definitely be seeing me use those!
I fell in love with some fabrics at the Diamond Textiles booth too.
Their prints & yard dyed fabrics look beautiful together!
I love their yard dyed fabrics with prints woven into them.
So much texture & color range!
Wish I could take the booths home with me.
That would certainly make some decisions easier!
They’re all so inspiring!
All too soon we’re back home & back to work.

Chloe & I flew to Quilt Market in Minneapolis to show my new designs.
We had a booth full of Tiny Dresdens, Mini Dresdens & some pretty cute Frosties!
Our special market friends were there too.

along with more of her signature 6 halves quilts & place mats.
It was great to see so many of our quilt shop customers again that we only see at quilt market
& it was fun to meet so many new ones too!

Wow, time flies when I’m having fun!
I enjoy the entire process of making quilt patterns.
I love buying the fabric, making the samples, writing the directions, working with my photographer getting the photos just right and then taking them to be printed. It’s almost fun folding and stuffing them into their zip top bags, almost. I find that I spend a fair amount of time in front of the TV waiting on my college-age kids to get home from school, work and play, so that’s when I usually take care of that task.
When all that is finally done, I can’t wait to see the finished product in its crystal clear bag, ahh! That shiny clear bag with my pattern inside just makes me smile.
The next step is debuting them at market. It’s a bitter-sweet task in itself. There is always travel involved, either to Houston each fall for fall market or to a different city each spring for spring market. After working my bootie off for several months getting new patterns and samples ready then traveling to get them to market where it’s three days of standing all day after a day of set-up and Schoolhouse lectures the day before that, it’s very exhausting as well as exhilarating.
It’s fun seeing quilting friends, but it’s very tiring getting “it” all together!

This is a lap size quilt, made with my Quilt-as-you-go method that I’ve chatted about here.
Bright & cheery for spring don’t you think? It’s been in the works since BEFORE I got back from Salt Lake City’s spring market in May. I love the way it turned out with the Amelia fabrics by Me & My Sister for Moda. The fence posts and the “grassy” area between the fence posts are sewn into strips then the strips are sewn onto the foundation. Next make and fuse the applique. I love the cricket, how ’bout you?

I’m sure you’ve all been wondering, “Is she EVER coming back?” Well, I’ve been home for a while now, but I’ve been extremely busy.
My son graduated from high school
the same day my niece got married.
I hosted my family throughout the holiday weekend so we could all visit with my out-of-town brother & his wife.
Next I spent two days with my son at SIU-E’s orientation getting him ready for not only school this fall, but also a class later this summer.
I also attended our guild’s Quilt Away, a three-day retreat which Celine Perkins of Perkins Dry Goods came in town to teach at. More on that in a later post.
Salt Lake City’s Quilt Market was a very successful show for me! Chloe was a great help. I met lots of new shop owners and employees that loved (and bought) my new “stuff”. The city was beautiful, what we were able to see of it, and the time shared with fellow quilt designers was priceless.

I’ve met so many nice people through quilting and Salt Lake City was no exception! Going to market is a LOT of work; from designing and making samples, to writing patterns, to photography and printing, to packing, traveling, booth set-up, working on your feet 9 hours a day… Then there’s tear down and more traveling, not for the faint of heart for sure, but the feedback from shop owners and distributors has been great and keeps me going! It was fun to experience market with my daughter, Chloe this time. Not only was she great help, but she was fun to spend the week with. She and Celine have already been planning to meet up again in Kansas City next spring where Celine hopes to also bring her daughter. That should be fun too!
