A Giveaway!, Dresden Quilt Workshop Quilt-Along

Winner (finally…)

Sorry, I’ve been a bit busy since getting home from Quilt Market.

I’m really enjoying seeing the progress of all of the little Dresden plate sewing,

so thanks for sharing your pics with us over at the Dresden Quilt Workshop FB group.

I want to give away this lovely fat 1/8th bundle

of Jen Kingwell’s Looking Forward collection by Moda.

So pretty!

Our winner is Susie Brown!

Since Susie is sewing her Dresden Quilt Workshop sampler with

Jen Kingwell’s Circulus & Lollies Sweet (like mine),

I’m sure she’s going to love this bundle.

Thanks again to everyone who is sewing along & sharing with us.

The fun will continue with Week #15 on Wednesday.

Until then,

Just Keep Sewing…

Dresden Quilt Workshop Quilt-Along Week #12

Week #

Please keep posting & sending me pics of your blocks!

If you’re not part of my Facebook group, Dresden Quilt Workshop,

head over there & sign up so you too can share & see all the progress.

This week we will refer to

Follow Me, page 65.

I can’t believe how quickly these weeks are passing.

Can you?

This week is just 1 Mini Dresden plate,

1 Tiny Dresden plate,

& 9 flying geese blocks.

Not too bad.

I actually made 3 Mini Dresden plates at once as I was making this one.

Remember me telling you that I made this entire quilt top in about 2 weeks?

It makes sense to assembly line piece blocks,

especially when you’re determined to get it done as quickly as possible,

which I ALWAYS am!

Pretty fun I think.

In case you’re having Dresden Quilt Workshop Sampler envy &

wish you had bought a kit with the Circulus & Lollies Sweet like my quilt,

You’re in luck!

I still have a few kits left on my website.

Just think, next week we’ll be at the half way mark!

This week we will refer to

Dresden Ohio page 61.

Look how far we’re getting!

Just 1 block this week,

& just 1 Tiny Dresden plate!

I had a pretty good grasp of what fabrics I wanted to use in this block.

That always makes the assembly go so much quicker.

& just 1 measly Tiny Dresden plate.

Not too hard, huh?

I hope you enjoy this block!

Dresden Quilt Workshop Quilt-Along Week #9

Week #

Please keep posting & sending me pics of your blocks!

If you’re not part of my Facebook group, Dresden Quilt Workshop,

head over there & sign up so you too can share & see all the progress.

This week we will a refer to

 Star-Spangled Dresdens page 45.

I love how dynamic this block is!

I think the addition of the Tiny Dresden plate in the center is perfect.

You’ll be making 2 of these blocks this week.

IMHO they go together pretty effortlessly.

I’ll be curious if you think so too.

I don’t recall having any reservations about my fabric choices.

I was excited to try this block out in other fabrics besides the patriotic feeling original color scheme.

& I think it works well in these Jen Kingwell prints!

& these Jen Kingwell prints too!

By now do you too have a pretty basket full of coordinating scraps?

This is where my creative brain wants to take that basket full of scraps and make something else as awesome as this quilt…. it just doesn’t quit!

Unfortunately time has a way of sneaking in and telling me “NO!”.

This is also where I finished another large spool of my most-favorite #1180, Medium Taupe!

It’s no wonder since I use this thread almost exclusively in my quilting.

Besides the bubble gum pink/poison green plates pictured with the spools,

I also used it for this whole quilt; piecing & applique for the plates too.

It blends so well with so many of my fabric choices.

I also had fun matching things up to see how the design as a whole was progressing…

2 more blocks.

Dresden Quilt Workshop Quilt-Along Week #5

Week #

Please keep posting & sending me pics of your blocks!

I love seeing the fabric choices that everyone is making.

If you’re not part of my Facebook group, Dresden Quilt Workshop,

head over there & sign up so you too can share & be insprired.

This week we will again refer to

A Blooming Day quilt, page 27.

This time we will be making 2 Dresden Eight-Pointed Star Blocks.

Start by making 2 Tiny Dresden blocks,

then make and sew them into 2 Dresden Eight-Pointed Star Blocks.

Note, the cutting instructions are for 3 blocks and you only need to cut for 2 blocks.

That’s the hardest part this week.

But it’s not hard, right?

Just a fun challenge!

Get to cutting!

FYI, as I was looking at the above diagram I thought it looked like it was about 1/4 colored in so… my brain had to do the math.

Who knew I loved math so much?

Anyway, the entire pieced top (minus the border) is 3,249 square inches.

After you make 2 these blocks, you will have made 800.55 square inches.

So, yes, approximately 1/4 of the top will be pieced when you make this week’s blocks!

It’s going quickly, don’t you think?

Just Keep Sewing…

& posting your progress!

Dresden Plates, New Pattern Sample

Have I Told You Lately, That I Love Little Dresdens???

Absolutely, cannot get enough!

I took the weekend off.

OK, at least from sewing & designing.

I still filled orders & chatted about upcoming workshops… & possible workshops.

Would your group like me to come teach for you?

I do that you know?

Check my website for ideas & pricing then send me an email or call to schedule.

Today, it’s back to business!

Betsy’s load became a lot lighter toward the end of last week.

Remember how she looked?

I have enough plates to work on at least one design.

My Flower Garden Gatherings bouquet is growing prettier each day.

So much fun!

What are you working on?

Are you sewing along with me on my Dresden Quilt Workshop Sampler quilt?

It’s not too late to join in the fun.

If you are sewing along, you’ve got one more day until I show you Week #5, so chop, chop!

Back to work for me.

Dresden Plate Quilt, new fabric collection, Tiny Dresden quilts

Meet Flower Garden Gatherings

At market I fell in love with Lisa Bongean’s

Flower Garden Gatherings by Moda.

It’s a rainbow of color!

I got samples a while back & finally set to cutting up the whole jelly roll into…

Yup!

~~~Tiny Dresden petals~~~
I must have cut close to a million of them.
OK, maybe 1,650 like the jelly roll of Jo Morton’s New Hope that I cut up & sewed back in January.
Aren’t they lovely???
Betsy agreed to hold them tangle-free as I work on 100 or so at a time.
There are so many that you can’t even see poor Betsy.
So far I have about 28 plates made.
My cutlery trays sure come in handy as I trim & press & move from ironing board to sewing machine to cutting table.
Can’t wait to show you more designs that you can make with little Dresden plates.
Are you sewing my Dresden Quilt Workshop Sampler with me?
You can see lots of color options on our Dresden Quilt Workshop Facebook group.
Please join & follow along to sew this awesome quilt.
It’s free.
You just need to buy the book, Dresden Quilt Workshop, & follow my blog.
It’s on my website if you still need a copy or if you want a kit.
Thanks for stopping by!
Dresden Quilt Workshop Quilt-Along
Dresden Quilt Workshop Quilt-Along Week #1
Week # 1
I’m so excited that you’ve decided to join the challenge
& sew my Dresden Quilt Workshop Sampler with me!
It is such an honor to have you join me.
You’re going to love the finished quilt.
It was so much fun to create & so beautiful too!
Everything you need is in the pages of my book;
Dresden Quilt Workshop.
I’m just going to help you realize it!
Each week, for 26 weeks, we will create a portion of the quilt
using bits of each of the 13 quilts in the book.
Today it’s finally time to get started with week #1!
This week we will refer to
Button Box quilt, page 51.
This step was chosen first because the block touches so many other blocks in the quilt.
Whenever I make a sampler quilt I’m careful to plan
 the fabrics so they will not blend into each other.
That can change or even ruin a design.
I had fun auditioning fabrics for this block.
In the end, my favorite lime green won out for more reasons that it’s my favorite.
I really liked the contrast of the black letters on the green.
This is the only block in the quilt where I changed the dimensions.
This block will fit on a fat 1/4 yd. (18″ x 22″).
Cut the background 9 1/2″ x 21 1/2″.
(Not as instructed for the actual Button Box quilt in the book!)
Follow the illustration below & the instructions on page 56 to make the applique.
If you purchased one of my kits,
you can use the “Authentic” black fabric
with words printed on it for the “Quilts” applique too.
Just remember, yours doesn’t need to match mine.
Use whatever fabric you want anywhere in the quilt.
Please note: I’m VERY FRUGAL when it comes to using sample fabric in a quilt.
Sample meaning, new and not yet available in quilt shops,
but if you follow my blog you already know that…
Many of my quilts are made with sample fabrics generously supplied by Moda.
I order what I think I need and if I need a bit more of something it may or may not be available so I use it very sparingly.
If you’re more liberal with your cutting you may not be able to use your kit the same way I used my sample fabrics.
You may also want add more fabrics to make it your own.
It’s your quilt!
I love using Sulky’s 12 wt. threads for my fusible web applique.
I like to say that it reminds me of when I was little & outlined everything with my black crayon!
(Most often I use this thread in black. This sample is an exception.)
It covers the raw edge of the fusible web really well & it makes my applique stand out.
That’s what we want, right?
With the REALLY busy print in this fabric it’s hardly the best example,
but I love it just the same.
Once you’ve stitched around the letters you’re done with this week’s challenge.
I hope you enjoy week #1!
A Giveaway!
Looking Forward Winner
Hi Quilting friends,
The lucky winner of the Jen Kingwell fat 1/8th bundle of Looking Forward
is #2.
Loraine Jarman Says:
You use the single finger pump bottle because it allows a very fine spray that will evenly coat but no saturate small fabric pieces.
This is correct!
Mary Ellen’s Best Press is the best for my little Dresden plates and all of my quilting cottons.
Now Loraine will have to decide what to do with the lovely fat 1/8th bundle
because she already bought a kit from me to make Dresden Quilt Workshop Sampler with.
What a tragedy!
Maybe she’ll make 2 versions?
If you know Loraine, she’ll have it made into something in no time at all
& have her own wheelbarrow full of scraps.
If you still need a kit for the Quilt-Along I have them available on my website.
Thanks Moda for the lovely fabrics for the give-away!
Lissa Alexander actually gave me 2 bundles, so watch for another give-away.
I’ll be bringing you more Dresden Quilt Workshop Quilt-Along prepping ideas soon.
