I can’t believe how quickly these weeks are passing.

Can you?

This week is just 1 Mini Dresden plate,

1 Tiny Dresden plate,

& 9 flying geese blocks.

Not too bad.

I actually made 3 Mini Dresden plates at once as I was making this one.

Remember me telling you that I made this entire quilt top in about 2 weeks?

It makes sense to assembly line piece blocks,

especially when you’re determined to get it done as quickly as possible,

which I ALWAYS am!

Pretty fun I think.

Dresden Plate Quilt, My Life

In The (Dresden) Trenches With You, Lol

When I got up this morning I put some finishing touches on a design that’s been in my head

& in my computer for several years…

then, I chose some lovely fabrics from my stash & started cutting.

This is where I showered & had a couple of errands to run,

which lead me to an estate sale…

I found this cutie!

I’m always attracted to things I’ve never seen before

& I like enamelware so I had to take it home with me.

As it turned out the estate sale was for my organ teacher from my childhood.

After offering my condolences, it was nice to talk with her 3 daughters.

We don’t know each other, but we reminisced about their mom teaching in their home.

How funny that we crossed paths so long ago.

I’m glad that I have the “1/2 Qt. Liq’d.” pitcher that will remind me of her.

After returning home & eating brunch,

I started sewing & soon had a pile of petals.

Then I had a pile of “bones” from trimming.

Then came some chain pressing with my new best friend,

Mighty Steam Iron (- the steam for me!).

I don’t steam while in the assembly process of making my little Dresden plates.

Too much tendency for stretching and wonkiness!

(yes, that’s a word! Look it up!)

Then I turned all of the petals right-side-out.

Then I pressed them again…

Then I sewed pairs of them together.

And pressed again, etc, etc, etc…

Before I knew it I had 12 pretty little plates!

As I notice the beautiful colors in our yard I’m reminded

that I’ve totally missed summer…

even though I have 3 huge windows in my sewing room.

Too much quilting to do!

Someone at my workshop Thursday asked me how long it takes me to make a single Dresden plate.

Well, since I assembly line sew them together it’s hard to know, really.

I cut at 8 a.m. & now it’s 1 p.m. plus that bit of a detour…

If you want to know, you’ll have to do the math because I refuse to punch a time clock!

(Literally or figuratively.)

Instead, I’ll Just Keep Sewing…

Just 1 block this week,

& just 1 Tiny Dresden plate!

I had a pretty good grasp of what fabrics I wanted to use in this block.

That always makes the assembly go so much quicker.

& just 1 measly Tiny Dresden plate.

Not too hard, huh?

Just 2 Dresden puzzle blocks this week.

I didn’t have much trouble making fabric choices for these blocks.

These were fun!

Our outdoor critters were having fun too as I look back at this time last year…

Mabel was showing Nemo her latest victim…

& why she has to brag about them to me I do not know!

The benefits of living in the country.

Anyway…

These blocks were fun and fast!

Hopefully yours will be too!

Wish I had this purple “Collection for a Cause Mill Book Series 1892” fabric.

We could have sold lots of kits…

Sometimes, the collections makes the quilt!

Button Box Workshop & Trunk Show at The Quilt Corner, Morton, IL

Next week I’ll be teaching a workshop to make a quilt from my book.

Quilt-as-you-go, Button Box

at The Quilt Corner in Morton, IL.

I love their shop!

I’ve been going there about once a year for about 20 years.

My DH usually has meetings in the area this time of year

and I usually go along and visit quilt shops in the area for those couple of days.

I also love this quilt for many reasons.

I love the fabric collection; Ladies Album by Barbara Brackman,

it’s a reproduction line…

It’s made with 2 charm packs so a lot of the cutting is done for you!

I love the movement the busy collection creates in the quilt.

No 2 blocks are alike.

I love the addition of the word “Quilts”.

I designed this into a quilt probably 10 years ago but never made it into a pattern!

I love that it’s Quilt-as-you-go project that uses my super easy technique.

I’ll be teaching that as well as the Tiny Dresden assembly.

Last but certainly not least,

I love to make Tiny Dresden plates!!!

While there I’m also going to have a trunk show of a lot of my quilts.

As of today there are still a few openings for both the trunk show & the workshop.

I love how dynamic this block is!

I think the addition of the Tiny Dresden plate in the center is perfect.

You’ll be making 2 of these blocks this week.

IMHO they go together pretty effortlessly.

I’ll be curious if you think so too.

I don’t recall having any reservations about my fabric choices.

I was excited to try this block out in other fabrics besides the patriotic feeling original color scheme.

& I think it works well in these Jen Kingwell prints!

& these Jen Kingwell prints too!

By now do you too have a pretty basket full of coordinating scraps?

This is where my creative brain wants to take that basket full of scraps and make something else as awesome as this quilt…. it just doesn’t quit!

Unfortunately time has a way of sneaking in and telling me “NO!”.

This is also where I finished another large spool of my most-favorite #1180, Medium Taupe!

It’s no wonder since I use this thread almost exclusively in my quilting.

Besides the bubble gum pink/poison green plates pictured with the spools,

I also used it for this whole quilt; piecing & applique for the plates too.

It blends so well with so many of my fabric choices.

I also had fun matching things up to see how the design as a whole was progressing…

2 more blocks.

We will be making just 1 measly Tiny Dresden block

& 2 very simple 9-Patch blocks.

Simple, simple, simple.

It was so simple that I didn’t even take any pics of fabric choices.

You’re seasoned little Dresden plate makers now,

so you’ll be able to do this week’s work with 1 hand tied behind your back. Lol!

Perhaps you can use some of your extra time this week getting caught up with some of your other quilting projects.
