A Giveaway!, New Pattern Sample, Quick Little Projects, Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Blog Tour

It’s Tuesday…

…and my day to blog about the new 100 Blocks Volume 4.

My block #313:

How strange is that, my favorite number is #13!!!

Olde St. Nick

Notice the signature on the block?  It’s one of the requirements when sending in the block.

Run right over to Quiltmaker’s blog and register to win original blocks!

Not only that, they’re offering lots of free stuff all week on the blog hop.

Now that you’ve met my Olde St. Nick, take a look at him (and his twin) on a fast & fun table runner that is also included in this issue on page 90.

To make a table runner of  your own:

First win or purchase a new copy of 100 Blocks Vol. 4

Make 2 Olde St. Nick blocks pg. 24 (see my last post for quick cutting)

Some of my favorite tools for this job include:

Wonder Under fusible web by Pellon,

an applique sheet to fuse all the pieces together on and

my machine’s button hole stitch with Sulky’s 12 wt. thread!  It makes my applique “pop”!

Cut 60, 2-1/2″ red squares

Cut 1, 10″ red square

Sew the red 2-1/2″ squares into 6 rows of 10 squares each.  Sew the rows together to make a 12-1/2″ x 20-1/2″ rectangle.  Sew an Olde St. Nick block onto each 12-1/2″ end.

Cut 10″ red square in half diagonally. Sew a triangle onto bottom of each Olde St. Nick block as shown in photo above.  Trim excess from triangles.

Quilt as desired, bind and enjoy!

I hope you enjoy the issue as much as I enjoy being part of it.

Now go UP, UP, UP to the TOP of my blog and leave a comment telling me your favorite season to sew for.  By doing this you’ll be entered to win the drawing for a FREE issue of Quiltmaker’s 100 blocks vol. 4.

The blog hop lasts all week, and I will personally draw for my winner on Friday after midnight.

Good luck and have fun!

Until next time,

Susan

Newly updated pattern #10 for Market

And last but not least…

Shaker Ladder Quilt,

It’s amazing how quickly these quilt-as-you-go lap quilts come together when you start with pre-cuts!  The cutting is practically all done for you.  This quilt takes a jelly roll, a charm pack and a yard of fabric for the triangles & binding.  You can’t get much easier than that.  You can however make your own fabric collection too if you prefer.  Instructions are included for that too.

Happy sewing and I’ll chat with you when I return from quilt market next week.

Until next time,

Susan

Newly revised Pattern #9 for Market

I decided to update the fabrics in some my favorite and popular patterns.  My earliest patterns had hand-drawn illustrations that are accurate, but now that I use the computer for eveything I decided to update that part as well.

One of those patterns is

Bunnies in the Grass,

I couldn’t resist making it in the new Amelia fabrics that I’ve been working with these past few months.  It’s so bright & cheery for spring!

The pattern includes an 18″ x 51″ table runner, a small quilt, plus a smaller bunny applique that is just right for towels or shirts, etc.

Look for it soon at your local quilt shop or on my website.

One more newly updated pattern tomorrow.

Until next time,

Susan

Sorry for yet another interruption…

I finished the sample that I was working on with the “extra” black charm squares from yesterday’s interruption post. Do you remember that chat?  Anyway, during the disappointing World Series Game #4, I put the hand stitches on the binding.

I like this outcome more than the Cardinals’ outcome.

It’s a sample of my new “A Pretty Plate” quilt using my “Mini Dresden Plate Plexi Template” that I introduced at spring market.

Notice how I used the black charm squares in the corners instead of more 4 patches?  I thought it would tie in the black centers of the Dresden plates.

Gotta love the bright spring-like fabrics.  Am I the only one that doesn’t enjoy this time of year because I know winter is just around the corner???

I’m so not looking forward to W-I-N-T-E-R!!!

Yes, it’s another Amelia fabric sample.  It will look nice sitting right close to all the others later this week in my booth at Houston.

Hopefully the Cardinals will have a better night tonight.

Until next time,

Susan

We interrupt these new pattern introductions…

I couldn’t resist taking a photo or two and showing you what I worked on during the game last night…

Pretty cute stuff, huh? It’s another sample of my Charm Pack Garland pattern.

I wanted to watch the world series game (Go Cards!!!) and also wanted to work on a few more loose ends for my trip to market in a few days.  So, I decided to take my ironing board, iron and fabric to the livingroom to watch the game with the family…

I started with some charm packs that I bought from my LQS last month (or maybe the month before that), more of that lovely “Amelia” collection.

I pressed them, notice I kept out the black squares to use on another project soon to be revealed.

Then I made the “string” to hold them all together, all while watching Pujols make world series history with three home runs in a single world series that only two other greats have been able to do; Babe Ruth & Reggie Jackson.  But anyway…with this stuff

today I was able to sew this,

Gotta love the pile of color that this makes!

Now, back to our regularly scheduled program.

Until next time,

Susan

Now this is a new Package

I know it seems like a long time since I posted, but to me it seems like just last week!  This time of year (market prep time) flies by because I’m so busy designing, sewing, writing patterns, scheduling photo shoots, meetings with printers, and all this in conjunction with keeping up with my family.  You know what I mean, grocery and Wal-Mart shopping, food prep, laundry, and the list goes on and on.  Even though everyone is back in school, my life just gets crazy busy.  This is why I can’t believe it’s been so long since I posted that I had a “new Package” made with the new Amelia fabric collection.

As I stated in the previous post, I knew my photographer would do a much better job than I could ever to, hence the reason I hire him!!!  Know what else?  After I posted that photo in my last blog I realized I didn’t like a portion of the quilt, so I “fixed” it!

Can you see what’s better and different?

I like it much better!

I have a total of 8 new patterns just about ready for market, in addition to this re-color of an existing pattern plus two more sample re-colors going.  I hope to be totally done with this part the end of the week so I can get assembling new patterns.  It sure would be nice to get a few good nights of sleep before heading off to market where there is no rest for the weary.

Until next time,

Susan

Another Pretty Package

I finally have evidence of sewing life here!

Remember my excitement over receiving the beautiful new Amelia fabrics designed by Me & My Sister for Moda?

I have been sewing with them.  This is actually the third lap quilt that I’ve made with them, but since the other two are pattern “wanna-bes” (soon to be patterns, but not yet) I will show you this one.  It’s already a pattern, remember and it’s available at your local quilt shop or my website.

A(nother) Pretty Package #179

…and it’s not only already a pattern designed and released by me earlier this year, but it has been my best-selling pattern since I introduced it in Salt Lake city in May.

It’s one of my quilt-as-you-go lap quilts that are oh so easy, fast and fun to make.  I made this whole quilt yesterday including the cutting, sewing, applique and binding!!!  Remember my tutorial here?

Please excuse the lack of beautiful photography.  I will have my photographer photograph it soon, but I couldn’t wait to show it to you today!

Besides the new package, and other new Amelia fabric quilts I’ve also made two new “In Season” quilts, one with a birthday theme and the second with a Halloween theme.  You’re just going to have to take my word for those two though, I’m not showing them just yet.

Now back to work for me!

Until next time,

Susan

Look, I’m sewing!!

Kids are back to school,

the sun is shining,

and I’m sewing!

Just a hint of the new project that I’m creating with the new Amelia fabric collection collected from the generous Moda fabric company, with additions from a couple of quilt shops during my travels these past couple of weeks.

My first, or rather second project, my first is complete with the exception of sewing 8 super cute buttons on some flower centers, is going to be another of my popular quilt-as-you-go lap quilts.  The first is also a quilt-as-you-go lap quilt.  What can I say, they’re my most popular patterns and I love making them myself.

They make great gifts, they’re do-able in a day, and I don’t have the stress of figuring out how to quilt them!

I can’t show you the finished projects until I have the patterns ready, but believe me they’re very cute.

For now, you’ll just have to take my word for it!

Until next time,

Susan

More Amelia

These days my “work brain” is all about Houston’s Fall Market the end of October.  Deciding what to showcase at market is always a hard decision.  After the decision is made, things always seem to go a bit smoother.

Fall market is the time of year that shops are purchasing the items that they will supply their shops with in the new year. These items are things to take your mind off of the cold, dreary, wintry days.  One of the things that can usually do this is sewing for spring.

Today, after our guild meeting, I was thinking more “Amelia”!

I know I already showed you a sneak peek of my newest creation last week that was also made with “Amelia”, but I decided that I wanted to make some of my “Charm Pack Garland” to hang in my booth too.

It’s one of my “Tiny Treasures” patterns, a fast & fun pattern that makes a cute garland for a Christmas tree, but it also can be made to hang anywhere, anytime.

Last week I noticed Sweet Annie’s, a local shop, had their Amelia pre-cuts already. I decided I’d better get them while I still could.  Next month the yardage will be available. I hope to have my samples made by then!  This is going to be too cute…

Until next time,

Susan

Hot Tips, My Life, New Pattern Sample

In Season? No thank goodness!

This week I needed to make another sample to send out for a trunk show.  It’s a sample from my “In Season” series. When I booked the two trunk shows I thought I had two samples already, but as it turned out I started making two samples of each when I got to In Season for Christmas!  Darn!  I also need to go back now and make a second In Season for Fall before I forget I only have one of those again too!

Maybe tomorrow, they’re quick!

In Season for Winter

No, I’m not at all ready to go back there!

These little quilts are actually fun for me.  A little bit of applique, a little bit of embroidery, a little bit of piecing, a little bit of quilting, a little bit of binding and you have a cute little quilt! You can purchase the pattern on my website if you’re not close to the two shops that are having trunk shows with my patterns and samples.  The first is at Pacific Fabrics & Crafts in Seattle, Washington (I’d like to hand deliver that one) and the other one will be at Byrne Sewing Center in New Britain, Pennsylvania, haven’t been here either.

I showed you a hot tip on how to do the stitching here last winter.

So far I have 6 patterns in this series. I should have more soon.

I hope you’re getting some sewing time too.

Until next time,

Susan
